There are a variety of many wonderful and huge Tourist Attractions in Alexandria and many Tourists and Visitors whether from the Country or from outside come to visit. STANLEY BRIDGE.. is a newly established Bridge and is the focus of attention for many local Residents and Foreign Tourists alike who love to take Photos of this Bridge and have them as Souvenirs . THE SEA WALK… and BIR MASSOUD which is a famous Well, plus walking along the Corniche and enjoying the Sunset and the Fresh Air where there is a Private Walkway which is close to the Rocks and starts from the Sidi Gaber Area to El-Shalby , where there is a Group of Cafes where you can enjoy a Drink whilst facing the Sea. Then there is the NOZHA ZOO…. Which is in the Smoutha Are, and has an Area of Twenty Four Acres which is nearby the Antoniadis Gardens and is the second largest Zoo in Egypt , after the Giza Zoo which is more than one hundred Years Old. One of the most famous Malls in Alexandria is SAN STEFANO…. And it contains a large Cinema which has ten Halls, and also includes a vast number of Shops, Restaurants and Clothing Stores. THE ANTONIDAS GARDENS…. These Gardens have a History which dates back to the Era of the Ptolemies which witnessed a great development during the period of Muhammad Ali. The Gardens are located in the Smoutha Area and has rare Flowers and a Giant Fountain. SENUSSI PALACE FOR GRILL AND FISH…. . This is a place on the Alexandria Highway and serves all kinds of Fish, and even has a Swimming Pool. And hosts Concerts for Major Artists. NO. 1. The Al-Montaza Palace is one of the finest places to visit in Alexandria for both Citizens and Tourists. The Palace was built in eighteen ninety two by Abbas II, and the Citizens of Alexandria are used to going there on Weekends and during Feasts. The Tourists can enjoy the Big Green Gardens in addition to the view of the Sea, and there are also some spectacular Beaches for anyone interested in going Swimming. NO. 2. The Library of Alexandria also known as the Bibliotheca Alexandria, the Library is one of the City’s greatest Attractions, and the original Library was once the largest in the World. It is thought to have been founded at the beginning of the third Century BC during the Reign of Ptolemy II of Egypt. The Present Bibliotheca Alexandria was opened in two thousand and three near the Site of the Old Library. It is designed in the Shape of the Sun in front of the Sea with a reference to the Sun of Knowledge rising from the Meditteranean Sea. NO. 3. Pompey’s Pillar which is a Roman triumphant Column , Pompey’s Pillar is one of Alexandria’s most famous Monuments still standing Today. It is located on the Ancient Acropolis, which is a modest hill in adjacent to the City’s Arab Cemetery, and was originally part of a Temple Colannade. It rises to a height of thirty meters which is ninety nine feet and that includes the Pedestal . The Shaft is made of Polished Red Granite which measures two point seven meters in diameter at its base, tapering to two point four meters at the top. The Shaft is twenty seven meters eighty eight feet, in height and was made from a Single piece of Granite. NO. 4. The Catacombs of Kom al Shuqqafa . These Catacombs are considered to be one of the seven Medieval Wonders of the World according to some sources. One of the more gruesome features of the Catacombs, is the so called Hall of Caracalla which according to Tradition , is a mass Burial Chamber, for the People and Animals massacred by the Emperor Caracalla . The Catacombs were discovered in nineteen hundred by chance, after a Donkey accidently fell into the access Shaft. It is believed that the Catacombs were intended for only a Single Family. It remains unclear as to why the Site was expanded to house numerous other individuals. NO. 5. The Roman Amptitheatre. The famous Roman Amptitheatre is located close to Masr Train Station in Alexandria , and is a popular Tourist Attractio. Constructed by the Romans in the second century AD, it houses Statues which were discovered beneath the Sea. There are two similar , but distinct types of Structure , to which the word Amptitheatre is attributed to. There were large central performance spaces around which slanted seating was built, and were commonly used for Spectator sports, and are very much similar to present open – air Stadiums. The name Amptitheatre comes from the shape which is like two Theatres joined together, from the Greek word Amphi, meaning two / both. NO. 6. The Greco Roman Museum . The Greco Roman Museum was originally constructed in eighteen ninety two and consisted of a five Room apartment situated in a small Building on Rosetta Street. It was transferred in eighteen ninety five, to the present location which is close to Gamal Abdul Street. The construction originally consisted of only eleven Rooms, and more Rooms were added at a later time. There are numerious pieces from the third century BC, which includes a fine Sculpture of the Egyptians Sacred Bull, known as Apis, in Black Granite. Additional pieces include Mummies , Sarcophagus, Tapestries and various other Objects and Sculptures, which offer an opportunity to view Greco – Roman influence in Egypt.. The Greco Roman Museum in Alexandria contains some fantastic Artifacts collected from different Areas around Alexandria to be displayed in the Greco – Roman Museum of Alexandria, which bears the Greek Inscription MOYEXION on it’s Façade to express the Housed Artifacts inside. The Museum is also well known for the Collections from the Temple of Serapis, the God who created to join the Egyptian with the Romans. NO. 7. The National Museum of Alexandria. Formally opened on December thirty first two thousand and three, and the National Musum is situated in a restored Italian Style Palace on Tariq Al – Horreya Street which is near the City Centre . It Houses approx.. one thousand eight hundred artifacts which narrate the story of Alexandria and Egypt. Most of the pieces originally came from other Egyptian Museums. The Museum is housed in the Old Al – Saad Bassili Pasha Palace. Al – Saad Basili Pasha was one of the wealthiest wood merchants of Alexandria. Construction on the Site was first undertaken in nineteen twenty six. NO. 8. The Musem of Royal Family Jewelry . This is a Art and History Museum in the Zizenia Neighbourhood of Alexandria, which was formally the Palace of Princess Fatma Al – Zahra. It contains a crucial collection of Jewelry from the Dynasty of Egypt’s Pasha and Viceroy Muhammad Ali. The exhibit also includes ninettenth century Paintings, Statues and Decorative Arts throughout the Rooms and Lobbies. Inaugurated on the Twenty fourth of October nineteen eighty six, after many Years of renovation and expansion , it reopened in April of twenty ten. NO. 9. The Qaitbay Citadel. The Qaitbay Citadel is located on the Eastern Side of the Northern Tip of Pharos Island, at the Mouth of the Eastern Harbor. It is considered to be one of the most important defensive Strongholds, and not only in Egypt, but also along the Meditteranean Sea Coast, and formed an important part of Alexandria’s forttifications system in the fifteenth Century AD. It was constructed on the exact Site of the famous Lightshouse of Alexandria one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and is popular among the People of Alexandria who enjoy the fresh air of the place on beautiful Summer evenings.
