The Nubians used the Aswan Botanical Gardens to settle in and named it Jet Narty, Lord Horatio Kitchener in the Year 1899 took the Island to be a place where his campaign could relax and called it the Lords House, Lord Kitchener who was a Commander of the Egyptian Army and he had a profound intensity for Palm Trees and Plants alike, which enabled him to convert the the entire Kitchener’s Island intp a impressive Botanical Garden, The Government of Egypt later took back the Island and it has been maintained as the Aswan Botanical Gardens, Divided into twenty seven squares with vertical and horizontal Paths which cut into each other makes the Aswan Botanical Gardens resemble a Chess Board. It is a truly awesome experience exploring the Island and all that it has to present. The Ministry of Irrigations in 1928 has made the Botanical Gardens to feature Trees from all Five Continents. There is a vast variety of Plantations and Trees that you will find on the Island, some were naturally found on the Island, before it was transformed into a Botanical Garden where as others have been carried in from different Continents. Rare Palm Trees such as the Royal Palm Tree, the Sabal Palm Tree, and the Phonic Palm Tree can all be found on the Island, The Gardens also enjoy an International Reputation as it has been visited by many International Leaders which include , Abdel Nasser, Tito, Nehru and Queen Elizabeth and many others, plus Scientists, Students and Reaserchers are all interested to visit. How to get to Aswan Botanical Gardens? The only way to gain entry to the Aswan Botanical Gardens on Kitchener’s Island is by Boat, either by using one of the Public Ferries that sail between Aswan, Elephantine Island and Kitchener’s Island or by hiring a Private Felucca Tour whilst sightseeing on the amazing part of the River Nile and gliding towards the most dramatic Egyptian Sunset. There are three entrances to the Kitchener’s Island, and the Main Entrance of the Island is located on the Northern End of the Island. The better way to view the Whole of the Island without doing a lot of walking is by entering the Main Entrance and walking the full length of the Island until you reach the Southern End. You can book a Felucca from there and ask the Captain to be waiting for you at the other end.
