ANCIENT EGYPTIAN HISTORY

Egypt in the Modern Era

Egypt in the Modern Era. Components that helped in creating Modern Egypt. Napoleon Bonapart conducted a French Invasion of Egypt in 1798 which came to become one of the key events in the Modern History of Egypt, but the French occupation of Egypt did not succeed therefore did not last long. The French were forced to pull out by 1801, although the circumstances that the invasion launched radically changed the future of Egypt. Being that the French conquered the Mamluks with such effortlessness shook the popular confidence in their capability to Rule. The Mamluks also tried an uprising against the Ottoman rule before the French came. This resulted in the Ottoman Sultan deploying a new Army under the command of Mohammed Ali to reinstate the Ottoman control in Egypt after the French departure. After trying to survive for a few years Mohammed Ali was in a position to gain approval with the people and set himself up in control of Egypt. By slaughtering the Mamluks in a surprise attack he strengthened his control in 1805 at the Citadel. Being acknowledged as the Governor of Egypt by the Sultan, Mohammed Ali set about creating Egypt an Independent Kingdom under his rule with the aid of a vast modern attempt which revolutionized Egypt’s Military and economic Powers. The Era of the Mohammed Ali Family. This period was established by Mohammed Ali Pasha in which his Family rule lasted for more than150 years and throughout this time Art, Science and culture expanded and grew which helped Egypt become one of the greatest Kingdoms in the East. His plan to modernize the Country included Educational, and new agricultural Systems. In respect of the architectural development this started under the reign of Khedive Ismail, who’s aim was to male Cairo the Paris of the East, where he worked to the greater extent of developing structural features which gives him the right to be known as The Second Founder of Modern Egypt after Mohammed Ali. The seat of Government during his reign was moved from the Citadel to Abdeen Palace. Khedive Abbas Helmy II carried on to establish the Modern Statem where the Egyptian University now known as Cairo University was constructed.. After this Egypt became a Kingdom during the reign of King King Fouad I , who marked many scientific institutions , he was succeeded by King Farouk, until the Revolution of 1952 and the control of the Royal Family came to an end in 1953. The beginning of Presidential rule in Egypt. • The first President of Egypt was Mohammed Naguib who led the Free Officers in the Revolution of July 23rd 1952 , but a dispute broke out between him and the Revolutionary Command Council and as a result he submitted his resignation. He was then placed under House arrest with his Family in the Zainab Al-Wakeel Palace, away from any Political life and was not allowed any visits to him. • The Second President was the most popular and famous Gamal Abdel Nasser, who began his Military career when he was Nineteen and attempted to join the Military College but failed so he chose to study Law he also constructed the High Dam in Aswan. • The Third President was Mohammed Anwar El-Sadat who in 1978 received the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with Israli Prime Minister Mencachem Began following the signing of the Peace Treaty at Camp David, • Followed on by Mubarak, then came the Revolution in 2011, after which Morsi took over as President. Egypt Today. From Ancient Egypt to the Roman Empire and the Islamic Dynasties the Egyptian Civilization has had a varied History. Today in Modern Egypt is a very different story, you will find in many of the Major Cities i.e. Cairo, International Hotels, Modern Restaurants, Skyscraper Building and Super Highways, alongside the Ancient Historical Mosques, Coptic Churched Traditional Souks and Monuments which make an interesting mix pf Ancient and Modern Day Egypt, During the past decade Egypt has come into it’s own as the Modern Centre of Africa, by the construction of Modern Marinas, Airports, new Highways networks which have resulted in joining Major Cities, plus providing telecommunications and Internet and the infrastructure for the continuing development of Egypt. Many acheivements have been made to form Modern Egypt with architecture i.e. The Biblotheca in Alexandria and the famous High Dam in Aswan.
