El Dakhla Oasis Dakhla Oasis lies between the Farafra and Kharga Oasis, and it’s capital is the Village of Mut. Dakhla is identified by consisting of many archeological Sites and antiquities from all ages i.e. Roman, Coptic, Islamic and Pharaonic. The part of the Dakhla Oasis in the Roman Civilization was great, as there is evedince of many Roman remnants and Wells that were confirmed in the Roman Period, and have remained until the Present Day. When the Romans began to persecute the Christians they ran to the Oasis making it the first Monastic movement there, also there were Christians who came to the Oasis in the Second Century AD, with the Caravan Trade movement on the trail to Sudan. Christianity became the official Religion of Egypt in the Fourth Century AD, when the Bishop of Kharga Oasis was agreed by the Patriarch of Alexandria. The Dakhla Oasis is depicted by the many handicrafts which are related to Palm Trees and the raw materials including the Sheeps Wool. The Road that curves out into the Western Desert from Cairo reconnects with the Nile Valley of Luxor. In the Middle it passes through four Oases. The first one being closest to Cairo is Bahariyya, which is the better known and more regularly visited by Tourists, who use it as a starting point for Desert Safaris, whilst Tourist rarely visit the remaining three Oases , they still do offer some very interesting ruins, some beautiful scenery and distinctive Culture of the Oasis to the Tourist. Dakhla is not depicted as a single unit but as a a series of small settlements which spreads out along the Highway, however it offers the most attractive scenery of any of the Western Desert Oases, Olive Groves, Oranges and Dates are distributed with the Sand Dunes which are along the Highway. Also you will find some Ancient Ruins along these settlements, including the Tombs of Al-Muzawaka which date from the mid- Pharaonic period. Al –Qasr which is a delightful, medieval mud-brick Town which some of the constructions date from the Tenth Century, Balat and Bashandi are also Traditional Town Centres. The only accommodations you will find in the Area are in Mut, which consists of a few Hotels and several Cafes.
