Ramesses IV / Ramses IV Tomb

Ramese IV or Hakka Maat Ra is the third ruler of the Twentieth Dynasty. He was the fifth and younger Son of Ramses III, and he became the Second Crown Prince of his Father’s rule. The rule of Egypt was issued from One Thousand one Hundred and Fifty one BC until One Thousand one hundred and forty five BC or from One thousand one hundred and fifty five BC until One thousand and forty nine BC, and he was in his forties when he ascended the Throne of Egypt. At the beginning of his reign he began by starting a vast construction campaign to match that of Ramses II, he doubled the amount of Artists in Deir el – Medina to one hundred and twenty men, and sent several expeditions to the Quarries of Wadi el – Hamamat and the Turquoise Mines in Sinai. However he did not live long to atchieve his targets, and his huge Rock Painting which is located in Wadi Hammamet , recorded that the largest expedition was sent in the third Year of his reign, which consisted of eight thousand, three hundred and sixty eight men, the two most important Documents received from his reign were the Harris papyrus I,, watching the Glorification of the reign of his Father, Rameses III, recounting his atcheivements and Gifts to The Temples of Egypt. After six full Moons Ramses IV died and was buried in Tomb KV2 in the Valley of the Kings.

King Ramesses IV was one of the Kings who ruled after King Ramesses III.

History.

The reign of Ramesses IV continued no more than six Years, and he did survive the Harem Conspiracy which was designed to spoil his claims to the Throne. He placed a Document in the Tomb of his Father which is now known as the papyrus Harris I, which apparantley gives an in depth account of the Reign of Ramesses III, Ramesses IV is thought to have been in his Forties when he became King. There are two Stela which means Columns that were discovered at Abydos by Mariette that reveals his piety and exceptional devotion to the Gods. The Quarrying of the Stone is said to have involved more than eight thousand people. Ramesses IV made the High Priest Mont, including other capable Scribes and Officials to visit the Site. More than likely there were approx.. Five Thousand Soldiers that were sent to haul the Vast Stones over the rough and tough Desert Roads.

Also known for the continuation of the Khonsu at Karnak which was started by his Father Ramesses III. A Temple at Asasif which lies on The Western Bank of the River Nile at Thebes, also known as Luxor, was constructed by Ramesses. King Ramesses IV also sent some expeditions to different Quarries. There are some papri which shows details of the corruption that exsisted in the Country during that time.

Ramesses IV became the Crown Prince in the Twenty Second Year of his Father’s Reign, although only the Fifth Son of Ramesses III, his Four elder Brothers predeceased their Father. In respect of whether or not he ruled as a co – regent of his Father, throughout the closing Years of Ramesses III’s Life his Son deemed to take on increasing responsibilities. An example of this is as early as Year Twenty Seven of Ramesses III’s Reign. Ramesses IV is depicted as being responsible for the appointment of Amenemopet as High Priest of Mut at Karnak.

Monuments.

Ramesses Tomb was found in the Valley of the Kings and his Mummy is now in the Cairo Museum as well as some additions to some Temples.
