Traditional Egyptian Foods. Authentic Egyptian Food is delicious and is a combination of Middle East, North Africa and some elements from France and Greece.The influences vary across Egypt where the Nubian and Sudan culture is found more in the South the Medittereanean is more apparent in Alexandria As you stroll through the Streets of Egypt you will notice lots of Food Carts where they serve very traditional and very cheap meals, and one of the most popular foods is Taameya meaning Galagel which a lot of Egyptian people eat for their Breakfast. So you will definatley enjoy all the different mouthwatering foods you will experience in Egypt. Koshari. Koshari is a popular dish which dates back to the 19th Century Egypt, the dish consist of Lentils, Rice Macaroni and Tomato Sauce topped with chickpeas and fried onions. If you like a bit of Zing on your food then add a splash of hot sauce. Shawerma. Sharwerma incorporates chicken or Lamb xhopped which is slowly cooked and severed on several different types of Bread and is very delicious. Cheeses. Egyptians love their cheese and there are quite a few to choose from, so when walking around Luxor or Cairo try some of the cheese listed here. Areesh Cheese. A soft White cheese made from Laban Rayeb which is a curdled milk. Domiati This cheese is extremely popular. It is a White soft cheese made from cow or buffalo milk and is usually served with Baladi Bread and is also very good with dates. Mish This cheese contains a high amount of salt which has been fermesnted and is served with Salads and Baladi Bread. Taameya Taameya is the Egyptian word for Falafel, prepared with chickpeas, fava beans and lots of green herbs thus giving it its bright green color. Vegetarian Dishes. For people who are vegetarian and Vegan Egypt caters for both. You can find meals which consists of vegetables, Legumes, spices also snacks of Dates and Nuts. Bread. Egypt has one of the best tasting Breads which started in Ancient Egypt.Aish El Baladi bread is the most populat not only loved by the Egyptian people but by Visitors from the World over. Molokhia. Molokhia is a very popular and Traditional dish in Egypt. It is a green leaf which is boiled and salt added to make a kind of soup that you dip bread into. It is very healthu and is packed with essential vitamins. When it is the season for the leaf people use it, then when the Season ends the people dry the leaf in the sun so they can enjoy Molokhia anytime. Mahshi. Another traditional and well loved dish is Mahshi. Mahshi is stuffed vegetables i.e. vegetables of choice, Zucchini, Bell Peppers, Cabbage Leaves or Grapevine Leaves, these vegetables are stuffed with rice, herbs and seasoning and is absolutely delicious. Fish and Seafood. Fish and Seafood is well loved in Egypt . Some of the best and freshest tasting fish you can have is in Alexandria as it comes right from out of the Mediterranean Sea. Also Aswan which has access to to the Red Sea you will find Snapper, sea bass, squid and shrimp and will be grilled or fried on the streets. Egyptian desserts. Egyptian people have a sweet tooth so they love their Desserts below are a few examples. Baklava A Pastry flavored with Nuts and Honey. Basbousa A cake made from Semolina coated with syrup, rose water and coconut. Fileer. This is a buttery pie, a soft layered pastry with a variety of toppings from cheese and vegetables to Sugar and Honey.
