Alexander the Great Egypt History. Alexander the Great Early Life. Alexander III of Macedon or more commonly known as Alexander the Great was the King of the Great Ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedon. Born in Pella in 356 BC most of his Life was spent in Military Campaignsm extending through Asia and North East Africa, he forged one off the topmost powerful Empires in Ancient times, when he was just 30 years of age. Extending from Greece to Northwest India, he is regarded as one of History’s more victorius Military Commanders. Alexander entrenched twenty Cities that carry his name, the most famous is Alexandria in Egypt. Featuring in both the Greek and non Greek Cultures. He became a symbol for the Military leaders to compare with his performance. To this day Military Acadamies from the World over still teach his stratagies in wars, ranking him among the most authorative people in History. Alexander the Great and Egypt and his 5 Demands. Alexander decided to enter Egypt in 332BC, after conquering the Persian Emperor Darius for the control of Syria and the Levant. Alexander began his march to Egypt with his Army of Macedonans and Greels with approx.. Forty Thousand Fighters to invade Egypt. Egypt became Governed by the Persian Empire and Alexander and his Army were regarded as saviours of the 7th Century BC and so went to the Oracle of Amun at Siwa Oasis. Alexander had 5 Demands. • No. 1. Alexander demanded when he arrived in Alexandria that it be transformed from an Island into a City. • No. 2. To go to Siwa and meet with the Ruler of Siwa • No. 3. To visit the Temple of Revelation of Amun. • No. 4. Once he entered the Temple to be left alone with the God Amun. • No. 5. Alexander the Military Leader to be buried in Siwa because of his love for the God Amun. Alexander asked the God Amun 3 questions, who fought his Father?, When he returned to Alexandria he found his men had transformed the Island into a City, but no one knows where Alexander is buried. The influence of Alexander’s conquest of Egypt was remarkable, respecting Egyptian Culture and Religion he decided to put into position a Greek Government to keep control of his management of Egypt. Greek impact in Egypt was strengthend by the encampment of Greek Veterans in Egypt, where they became a privileged aristocracy that gradually absorbed with the Egyptians. A new Greek Capital was also found by Alexander, A;exandria which was located at the Mouth of the Nile in the Meditteranean. After the death of Alexander Ptolomy who was one of the Genera;s , claimed Egypt to be his Kingdom. The Ptolomac Dynasty lasted until the Romans comquered Egypt in 32 BC, Becoming a Great City Alexandria spread Greek Culture and learning , it became the site of the famous Ancient Library of Alexandria and the Pharaohs Lighthouse which was constructed on the site of Qaitby Citadel which stands to this very day. Alexander the Great Military History. Alexander the Great has an acclaimed history of unbeaten wars firstly against the Persian Command of Darius III, and as far East as Punjab, India, thus proving Alexander to be one of the most victorius Military Commanders in History. After the death of his Father Phillip II, Alexander traveled East against the Achaemenid Persian Empire under King Darius II, whom he bought down. His victories included Syria, Gaza, Egypt, Ariatolia Persia and he also expanded the Borders of his Empire to Punjab India. Alexander the Great being a superb Military Commander before his death had expanded into the Arabian Penninsul. Moreover the Families and Friends of Alexander rejected these plans after his death and started to fight against each other which continued for 40 Years.
