Hathor Temple at Dendara

Hathor Temple at Dendara. The Temple of Hatour or the Temple of Dendara is one of the most important Temples of the Ancient Egyptians. The Gods Hathor and Osiris were worshipped at the Temple. Famous for the Illustrated Astronomical Scenes which can be seen on the Ceiling of the Temple, including numerous Scenes depicting that of Kings and Emperors making their offerings to the Gods, there also Catacombs which are built into the Walls and foundations and includes two Staircases which lead to the Roof of the Temple. • Location. • The Temple is located in Dendara City which is North of Luxor approx.. 28 Miles from Luxor and tales around 50 minuites by Road. • Who built it.? • The Temple was built firstly by the Ptolemies , Ptolomy XII, and Cleopatra II, the decoration was continued on by the Romans. • Why was it Built? • It was built in respect of showing their dedication to the Egyptian Gods and Goddessess , particularly the Goddess Hathour, who was the Goddess of Music, Love and Joy. Explanation Whereas it is an unfinished Monument it is regarded to be the best preserved one along with Edfu Temple, to enter the Temple you will walk through the Roman Gateway. Lying on the right hand side there is a Roman Birth House, and the Temple also allows Visitors to visit the Roof and is one of the few Temples to offer this view. There is a Small Temple which can be found at the back of the Temple which is in Honour of Hathour and Isis . You will also find a Palm Tree which is grown within the Sacred Lake. In the first section which lies on the Eastern side shows the Goddess Nut who represents the Sky leaning herself towards the Earth and the Sun Disc is seen shining on the Temple and the Mask of Hathor. Alongside of this there is a portrail of the Sun Boat and the Star Goddess and next to the Sun Boat the Western Ceiling shows the most amazing paintings of the Zodiac Signs which is what makes this Temple one of the most famous, The original Zodiac is housed in the Lourve Museum, the Twelve Signs of the Zodiac , shows the Ram, the Bull, the Heavenly Twins, the Crab, the Lion, Virgo, the Scales which is Libra, the Scorpion, the Archer, the Goat and the Watering Pots and the Fishes with fantastic sparkling Tails,
