Port Said
Port Said is a Coastal Egyptian City which is also known as the Valient City, and represents the administrative Capital of Port Said Governate, which includes as well Port Fouad. There are quite a few Museums in Port Said and distinctive Landmarks, including the Port Said Military Museum. Port Said obtained International fame during the Period of the end of the Nineteenth Century and the beginning of the Twentieth Century as a distinguished Sea Port.
The Port which stands at the intersection of the Meditteraenean and the Suez Canal,and the City was founded in 1859 as the Canal was being built and grew into the Gateway to Asia. Which became a Crossroads for Sailors and Travelers
This actually was the planned site for the Light of Asia which was the Giant Statue that became the Statue of Liberty in the Harbour at New York, reason being that the original plan was turned down as it was deemed too expensive.
During the Twentieth Century Modern Air Travel plus war damage has caused most of Modern Tourism to by pass Port Said, however it offers easy Day Trip access to Alexandria, Cairo and the Wadi Natrun Monasteries , as well as more smaller archiological sites in the Delta at Tanis and Rosetta.
